All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and EC-Council Academia join forces to encourage the participation of more students in cybersecurity and promote the cybersecurity academic ecosystem in an immersive hybrid learning experience.
The Cybersecurity industry is currently facing a massive talent shortage, and it is estimated that more than three million professionals are needed to help close the skills-gap in 2021. Both AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) and EC-Council Academia hosted a webinar on June 30, 2021. The webinar “Cyber Security Careers: A Guide to Recession-Proof Learning” discussed how the pandemic is paving the path for “hybrid learning” – and how to best develop a new framework for cybersecurity courses, what the new digital ecosystem will look like and the pressing need for qualified professionals in the cybersecurity industry.
The key panelists included thought leaders viz. Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe (Chairman, AICTE), Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur (Director, IIT-), Dr. Rajasree (Vice-Chancellor, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Trivandrum) and Mr. Akash Agarwal (Vice President (IMEA & APAC), EC-Council).
Keynote speaker, Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, shared his thoughts on the future of cybersecurity education and curriculum inclusions. “AICTE has introduced undergraduate engineering program specializations in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, robotics, quantum computing, data science, cybersecurity, 3D printing and design. We have launched a four-year B. TECH program in AI and science. The emerging technologies are available for specialization in two formats; choose them as an elective and get an honors/minor’s degree. Cybersecurity is also available as a minor’s degree should a student choose to study the domain. AICTE will also continue to collaborate with EC-Council Academia and continue to promote cybersecurity essential tools and training programs that engage colleges; institutes; students and faculties.”
The pandemic forced many industries to quickly adapt to a digital environment, making an overwhelming number of unsuspecting businesses victims of cyberattacks. India alone witnessed a soaring record of 377.5 million brute-force attacks in the past year. Cybersecurity education is more crucial than ever before, amplifying the need of upskilling and reskilling students, faculty, and professionals in the industry.
“The organizations that are becoming cyber compliant will increase their profitability and revenues. It will also help improve customer trust – leading to a better reputation,” said Mr. Jay Bavisi, Global President EC-Council. He added, “Organizations like EC-Council Academia can help other institutions improve their cybersecurity mechanisms. Hybrid learning is a fantastic way to ensure that professionals continue developing new skills, without losing their productive hours and businesses should take advantage of this innovation.”
In summary, it was agreed that there is a growing need for institutes and organizations to become cyber compliant in order to remain part of the system. Many new cybersecurity policies to preserve national security and combat attacks will be introduced by the cyber commission soon. A new national education policy does not specify a distinction when it comes to funding research. Private organizations, such as EC-Council Academia, will play a significant role in providing courses and training to both individuals and organizations who are supporting AICTE in their initiatives. They will offer cybersecurity courses that include a mix of theoretical and practical lab exercises and simulations – made to equip for their desired job.
