EC-Council Academia and Global College of Engineering & Technology sign an agreement to drive awareness about the importance of cybersecurity, enabling students to build successful career paths.

Sultanate of Oman, September 30, 2021 – Cybersecurity education is now more important than ever before. Due to the pandemic, many sectors, including education, have been forced to quickly adapt to a digital environment, resulting in many unsuspecting businesses becoming targets of cyberattacks. Upskilling and reskilling students, faculty, and industry professionals is of the utmost importance to global security.

With the goal of bridging the cybersecurity education and digital skills gap, EC-Council Academia has formed an alliance with the Global College of Engineering & Technology (GCET) in Oman to introduce cybersecurity courses to students in their degree program. The partnership will work in two parallel tracks; one is the EC-Council Academia Partner program and the other is the EC-Council Authorized Training Center (ATC). EC-Council will work with the GCET Cyber Research Group in cybersecurity-related activities. The GCET Cyber Taskforce, a helping hand to the research group, along with EC-Council, will act as an advisory body for both public and private sectors in cybersecurity-related projects and activities.

To build a strong, dependable, and growing network of passionate cybersecurity professionals in the Middle East, EC-Council, in association GCET, organized a webinar titled How to Build a Career in Cybersecurity. In this webinar, Akash Agarwal, Vice President (IMEA & APAC) of EC-Council and Dr. Amjed Sid Ahmed Mohamed Sid Ahmed, Director of Research and Innovation, Program Leader of Computer Security & Forensics for GCET, speak to students about the changing landscape of the cybersecurity industry, new developments in the industry, a growing number of available roles in the industry, and the academic courses, training, and certification programs that are available for career development. They also discussed how build a career in cybersecurity and how to ensure success.

“We are delighted to partner with EC-Council and are confident this collaboration will equip our students with essential professional certifications that are required in the industry,” says Professor Geoffrey Elliott, GCET Dean. “We believe the partnership with EC-Council will strengthen the visibility of the unique B.Sc. in Computer Security and Forensics program, both locally and within the region. Partnering with EC-Council will provide GCET students access to robust EC-Council Academia syllabi, exclusive event invitations and access, cyber competition discounts and scholarships, student discount rates and exam eligibility, and EC-Council Testing Center resources. In addition, the collaboration with EC-Council will enrich GCET-Cyber research group activities and output.”

“The cybersecurity industry is facing a dire shortage of professionals with the right skills,” says Jay Bavisi, President and CEO of EC-Council. “Current professionals need ongoing training to stay abreast of the latest developments in the sphere. In such a scenario, our partnership with GCET will aid us as we strive to make cybersecurity accessible to all. There is a lot at stake if the cybersecurity skill gap isn’t tackled head-on, and we are confident that with the support of GCET, we will be able to make a difference.”

The EC-Council Academia partner program was created to provide tailored EC-Council courses, certifications, and ancillaries to higher education institutions across the globe for all genders. Partnerships equip clients with valuable tools, resources, and degree programs to fit their budget. EC-Council programs help students achieve their certification goals and assist in developing cybersecurity skills that fit industry requirements.
