Cybersecurity professionals worldwide participated in the resoundingly successful 2021 cycle of the Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH) Practical Scholarship program.
March 01, 2022, Tampa, FL: In 2021, EC-Council’s Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH) Practical Scholarship program granted over $1 million to members of the ethical hacking community. Initially reserved for 2,000 applicants, scholarships were ultimately awarded to a diverse group of 2,118 cybersecurity professionals representing 131 countries, the majority from the United States, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Nigeria, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Fifty percent of funding was allocated for women and members of the neurodiverse community, with almost every female and neurodiverse applicant receiving a scholarship.
Rising levels of cybercrime have led to increased demand for a robust cybersecurity workforce capable of handling this crisis. EC-Council organizes the C|EH Practical Scholarship initiative to give back to the cybersecurity community and alleviate the sector’s significant talent shortage. Scholarships cover the cost of taking the C|EH (Practical), a live, remotely proctored 6-hour exam consisting of 20 ethical hacking challenges. Those who pass this difficult test receive the C|EH (Practical) credential and earn the opportunity to be featured on EC-Council’s Global Ethical Hacking Leaderboard.
Of the C|EH Practical Scholarship program’s success, President and CEO of EC-Council Group Jay Bavisi says: “Businesses worldwide need skilled cybersecurity professionals to combat today’s cyberthreats. Every year, EC-Council runs the C|EH Practical Scholarship program to support the growth of the ethical hacking community. The C|EH (Practical) enables learners to put their skills to the test and meet industry standards. It is the goal of EC-Council through the C|EH scholarship initiative to advance the development of cybersecurity professionals globally and highlight the contributions of women and the neurodiverse community.”
Ethical hacking is gaining momentum as a profession in the wake of cyberattacks that pose serious threats to organizations’ security postures as well as national security. Increasing diversity and improving representation in the cybersecurity community is key to building a strong workforce equipped to handle these challenges. EC-Council’s C|EH program is a globally recognized industry certification that sets the standard for ethical hacking and provides candidates with the latest industry knowledge and skills, drawing on real-world threat scenarios and attack surfaces.
